1- Interagency National Fire Plan Community Assistance
Applicants can apply for Community Assistance Grants through this
website. Applications for the Community Assistance Grant Program must be submitted, along with a map no larger than 2Mb, by email to: NW_Fire_Plan_Grants@or.blm.gov
by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8th, 2008.

Mitigation Grants

Grant Description:
This grant provides a collaborative
process for awarding funds to hazardous fuels reduction
projects on non-federal land in the Wildland-Urban Interface.
Applications will be evaluated by a three step local, state
and federal review based on the criteria outlined for each of
the program categories.

Funds For:
Eligible projects must be adjacent to Federal Land and identified in a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) completed by February 8, 2008. Collaborated CWPP projects must implement fuels treatments in the wildland-urban interface.

Who Can Apply:
Counties, cities, state and local government agencies, federally recognized Tribes, universities, colleges, and state-chartered non-profit organizations in Oregon and Washington. No more than two proposals per county may be submitted, they must be in high-risk areas as identified in the statewide risk assessment.

February 8, 2008

Match:
Have collaborative match of at least 50 percent (may include in-kind)

Grant Description:
Financial assistance for Volunteer Fire Departments.

Funds For: Organizing, training and equipping rural fire districts.

Ineligible Projects:
Major expenditures such as building construction or new fire apparatus. Land acquisitions or building repairs, pressurized waterline construction and hydrants.

Grant Administration:
Oregon Department of Forestry & Washington Department of Natural Resources.

Who Can Apply:
Volunteer fire department serving communities under 10,000 in population.

Application Due:
OR:  April 15, 2008
WA:
Phase I-March 3 to may 1, 2008
Phase II-Sept. 1 to Oct. 31, 2008

Match:
10-50% of money or in-kind services.

Grant Description:
A competitive grant process among the 17 western states and Pacific Island territories. Funds are to reduce the threat of fire in the wildland-urban interface.

Funds For:
Hazard mitigation, fuels and risk reduction, information and education programs for homeowners and communities. (Criteria may vary slightly for each year.)

Who Can Apply:
State Forestry. State Forestry may sponsor other participants.

Applications Due:
Mid September 2008

Awarded:
December 2009

Examples of Projects Funded:
Firewise demonstration and community workshops, establishing a "Fire Free" program in OR, homeowner incentives to reduce fuels in both OR and WA.
